PLANTA stands for durability and innovation. The fourth generation of the family company is “connected to tobacco”. 

The family of the company's founder, Dr. Manfred Obermann, owned a tobacco factory in Bünde, Westphalia. In 1956 he moved to Berlin to found his own company. Together with his wife Rosemarie and 10 employees, he laid the foundation stone for the PLANTA success story. 

Today, the company employs more than 120 people and exports its high-quality tobacco products to 40 countries worldwide, whereby the quality seal "made in Germany" has a special place in the Planta family due to the production taking place exclusively in Germany.

After 63 years and three generations of successful ownership, the family-owned company stopped producing tobacco in Berlin on 31^st August 2019 and handed their company over to the manufacturers at Mac Baren.

All Planta Products are now made at the Mac Baren’s factory, along with all their classic at the factory.

Presbyterian tobacco originally started as a custom blend mixture with no name, made specially for the Rev. Dr. John White (Scottish General Assembly, 1929). Dr. White shared a bowl with Stanley Baldwin, who was soon to become Earl Baldwin (Prime Minister). He suggested the name 'Presbyterian Mixture' and it was then released on general sale.
